Criteria and Selection Process for SOCAL Sister Cities Scholarship Grants, 2012

The Board of Directors of the Southern California Chapter of Sister Cities will give two scholarship grants, each in the amount of $750.00 to promote student participation in international exchanges, especially through Sister Cities.

Eligibility:

A. Applicants must be participating in their local Sister City organization.
B. Applicants must be high school juniors or seniors or be enrolled in an accredited college or university.
C. College students must be carrying at least 9 units (credits) and maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

2. Application Requirements:

A. Completed application form with a copy of applicant's unofficial transcripts.
B A brief summary of the applicant's Sister City activities.
C. A letter of recommendation by a member of your local Sister City organization and from a school counselor, advisor or teacher.
D. Application and supporting documents must be postmarked by Saturday, December 30, 2011. Documents should be sent to Fred Alcantar, 126 Franklin Ct., Glendale, CA 91205-1113 or e-mailed to him at: falcan@pacbell.net
E. An interview in person or by phone will be required of the finalists.

3. Selection process:

A. The award's committee will review the applications and select the finalists.
B. The committee will interview finalists in the month of January.

4. Announcement of Awards:

Scholarship awards will be announced at the annual SOCAL Conference on February 25, 2012.
