President’s Message
Welcome to Southern California Sister Cities new web site. Please note SOCAL'S upcoming annual conference is scheduled for Saturday, February 27, 2010. An exciting and informative program has been planned, and I look forward to your participation and that of your sister city members. The importance of economic development to our cities was never more evident than it is today. This year's theme is: “How To Promote Economic Development - Your Sister City As A Tool'”.
A continental breakfast and luncheon are included. The conference locale will be the renowned Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino. In addition to networking and gaining new ideas, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the many attractions at the Huntington, including the Chinese Garden and the superb art collection in the newly remodeled Huntington Art Gallery.
Promoting citizen diplomacy is a major mission of the sister cities movement. Recognition of its increasing importance is spreading. The role of sister cities is more needed than ever. Our people to people approach has advanced the understanding of cultures and people globally. The work of each of your sister cities and their contributions increasingly is being recognized for its value in an ever changing world. Joining together, we can make a difference.
